The Royal Nanny (Harper)

Start Date

I have always been a bit enamored with the Royal Family and love reading about them. This work of fiction is based on a real person, Charlotte "LaLa" Bill, who came to Sandringham in 1897 to be an under-nurse, but soon after finds herself as the head nanny to the royal children -- 2 of whom would later be Kings of England. "LaLa" will help to raise and shape the future kings, Edward VIII and George VI, although after reading this story, one can only think that her predecessor made an indelible mark on David (later King Edward VIII).

LaLa was probably most dedicated to the youngest of the royal children, Prince John. Prince John suffered from epilepsy starting at about age 4, and although the family wanted to keep him out of the spotlight, LaLa was very adamant that he not be sent away, insisting she could care for him best at Sandringham where he could be near family. She cared for him until his death in 1919.

I listened to this title on Hoopla and enjoyed it immensely.  The narrator was fantastic!!
