Program Description

Mastodons and Mammoths…you likely know a certain “Ice Age” character named “Manny” and have seen images of remains found throughout the world in recent years. You probably also know that both Ice Age giants once roamed the area we now call Michigan, and that modern elephants are their distant ancestors. However, do you really know the similarities and differences between Mastodons and Mammoths? The answers may surprise you!

Join Ron Bloomfield, from Central Michigan University’s Museum of Cultural and Natural History and Museum Studies Program as he examines Mastodons and Mammoths through the traces they left behind…artifacts that have now become clues to solving the ice age “mystery” of who these giants really were. View these artifacts up close at this family friendly presentation!

Ron Bloomfield is currently the Collections Manager of Central Michigan University’s Museum of Cultural and Natural History, and an instructor and mentor in CMU’s Museum Studies Program.  A thirty-year veteran of the museum field, Ron has worked with various cultural and natural history museums in a variety of capacities including as a curator, public historian, director, exhibit developer, consultant, and board member.
