Program Description

Program Description

Join us as Elizabeth Rice and Pat Commins discuss their book Irish Immigrants in Michigan: A History in Stories. Rice, who lives in Michigan, and her cousin Commins, living in Dublin, Ireland, collected stories of families who emigrated from Ireland to Michigan in the mid-1800s.

The pair will discuss what situations drove Irish people to immigrate to North America, what was appealing about Michigan, how people made the journey to Michigan, and how they began new lives here. Stories of Irish in Isabella County will be the main talk, with neighboring counties also being discussed.

A question and answer session will follow the talk, and books will be available to purchase.

A Zoom option will also be available to attend this event. Zoom links will be sent out prior to the event.
